Troi Runner — End-User License Agreement & Pre-Install Disclosure

Before you install — read this

  • The Troi Runner is optional desktop software you install on your own machine. You don't need it to use Troi in the browser; it's for running jobs (builds, git, media processing, AI coding agents) locally.
  • It installs and manages developer tools on your machine — including git, azcopy, bun, and one or more AI coding-agent command-line tools.
  • It runs in the background and polls Troi periodically for jobs your own account sends it. It uses your machine's privileges to do so.
  • It updates itself automatically and sends job results and diagnostics back to Troi.
  • You can pause it, uninstall it, or rotate its token at any time.
  • You must be authorized to install software on that machine.
  • Installation requires accepting this EULA, which we record against your account and the version you installed.

This End-User License Agreement ("EULA") is a binding agreement between you ("you", "Operator") and Kanah LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company operating Troi ("Kanah", "we", "us"). It governs your installation and use of the Troi Runner software and updates to it (the "Runner"). It supplements, and is subject to, the Troi Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. By installing or using the Runner, you accept this EULA. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Runner.

1. What the Runner is (and that it's optional)

The Runner is optional desktop software that executes jobs locally on your machine and syncs the results with Troi. You can use Troi without it; it exists to run workloads — such as software builds, git operations, media processing, and AI coding agents — on your own hardware and network rather than in the cloud.

2. What it installs and runs on your machine

To do its job, the Runner downloads, installs, updates, and invokes third-party developer tools on your machine, which may include:

  • git — version control;
  • azcopy — file transfer to/from storage;
  • bun — JavaScript/TypeScript runtime and package manager;
  • one or more AI coding-agent command-line interfaces (CLIs) — used to run agentic coding and automation tasks.

These third-party tools are licensed under their own license terms, which apply to your use of them. The Runner may also create working directories, cache files, and configuration on your machine. You are responsible for maintaining your machine and for any other software on it.

3. Persistence and how it runs

The Runner installs as a background process that runs persistently and polls Troi periodically to receive jobs. It starts automatically per your operating system's configuration and continues running until you pause, stop, or uninstall it. It operates with the local privileges of the account that installs and runs it, and it can read, write, and execute within the scope of those privileges. Only install it on a machine, and under an account, where those privileges are appropriate.

4. Jobs come from your own account

The Runner executes jobs that your own Troi account (or your authorized workspace) sends it. It authenticates to Troi using a token issued when you connect it. You are responsible for the jobs you (and, in a Troi Studio team, your authorized workspace members) dispatch to your Runner, and for the effects those jobs have on your machine, your data, and any systems they reach. Because jobs can run arbitrary developer tooling and AI coding agents with your local privileges, treat a connected Runner as an extension of your own account and machine.

5. Automatic updates

The Runner updates itself automatically through an update channel we operate, so that it stays secure and compatible. Updates may add, change, or remove functionality and may update the bundled third-party tools. By using the Runner you consent to these automatic updates. If you disable updates, the Runner may stop working or become insecure, and we may decline to support it.

6. Data flows back to Troi

To coordinate work, the Runner sends data back to Troi, including job requests and results, logs, diagnostics, status/health signals, and version information. This data is handled under the Privacy Policy and, where applicable, the DPA. The Runner processes your content locally to perform jobs; what it transmits to Troi is what's needed to coordinate and complete those jobs and to support and secure the Service.

7. Your controls — pause, uninstall, rotate tokens

You remain in control of the Runner at all times. You can:

  • Pause or stop the Runner so it stops taking jobs;
  • Uninstall the Runner and remove its files from your machine;
  • Rotate or revoke the Runner's token from your Troi account, which disconnects it.

We recommend rotating the token if you suspect it has been exposed, and uninstalling the Runner before you dispose of or transfer the machine.

8. Authorization to install

You represent and warrant that you are authorized to install and run the Runner on the machine where you install it — that you own it or have permission from its owner and from anyone whose policies govern it (for example, an employer's IT policy). Do not install the Runner on a machine you are not permitted to modify. You are responsible for any consequences of installing it without proper authorization.

9. License grant and restrictions

Subject to this EULA, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Runner on machines you are authorized to use, solely to use the Troi Service. You must not: (a) copy, sell, sublicense, rent, or distribute the Runner; (b) reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble it except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by law; (c) remove or alter proprietary notices; (d) circumvent its security, licensing, or update mechanisms; or (e) use it to violate the Acceptable Use terms or any law. We and our licensors retain all rights not expressly granted.

10. Export controls and sanctions

The Runner and the tools it installs include or rely on cryptographic software and are subject to export-control and sanctions laws, including US Export Administration Regulations and OFAC sanctions. By installing or using the Runner, you represent and warrant that:

  • you are not located in, and will not use or export the Runner to, an embargoed or sanctioned territory (including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions);
  • you are not a person on a restricted or denied-party list (including OFAC's SDN list) and are not owned or controlled by such a person; and
  • you will not use the Runner for any purpose prohibited by applicable export-control or sanctions law.

11. Acceptable use

Your use of the Runner is subject to the Troi Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service. Among other things, do not use the Runner to build, run, or distribute malware; to gain unauthorized access to any system or data; to infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights; or to process content prohibited by law. When the Runner executes AI coding agents, the AI Transparency Disclosure applies — including that AI output can be wrong and that you are responsible for reviewing what agents produce before you rely on or ship it.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

THE RUNNER IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Runner will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that it (or the third-party tools it installs, or the AI agents it runs) will produce correct or complete results. You install and run the Runner at your own risk and are responsible for maintaining backups and safeguards appropriate to your use. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Kanah and its suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to the Runner, even if advised of the possibility. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Runner is limited as set out in the Terms of Service and, in any event, will not exceed the greater of the amounts stated there. Nothing in this EULA limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (including, for consumers, mandatory statutory rights).

14. Termination

This EULA and your license continue until terminated. It terminates automatically if you breach it. You may terminate by uninstalling the Runner and revoking its token. On termination, you must stop using and uninstall the Runner. Sections that by their nature should survive (including 9–13, 15) survive termination.

15. Recording of acceptance; governing law; changes

  • Recorded acceptance. Installation requires accepting this EULA. We record your acceptance server-side against your Operator account and the Runner version you installed, together with the date. Installing a materially updated version may require accepting an updated EULA.
  • Governing law and disputes. This EULA is governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, and is subject to the same dispute-resolution terms (including arbitration and class-action waiver for US consumers, with mandatory consumer-protection carve-outs for EU/UK users) as the Terms of Service.
  • Changes. We may update this EULA; the current version is published at /legal/runner-eula. Material changes are notified as described in the Terms, and continued use of the Runner after they take effect constitutes acceptance.
